Definitely worth a read if you’re looking for an interesting non-fiction. It’s not a book I’d say I enjoyed, it was frustrating (for reasons mentioned below) but I learned a lot and it was well written.

I struggled throughout with the unconscionable actions of the Russian system, the frustrating gamesmanship of the US government, and the lengths rich people would go for the sake of making more money. It all felt pretty gross.

Bill Browder is a good storyteller -- I chose this after enjoying Freezing Order -- but I felt this one was a little long. The story is involved and Browder has a talent for detail, quoting conversations or recounting movements that most of us would forget years after the fact. Still, there are places that could have been cut back, like commentary on his first wife. If you're going to choose one Browder book, pick Freezing Order but if you're curious about Russia or any of the cast of characters in his dramatic world, Red Notice is worth the read.

True story. Well written

A true story and reads as a financial thriller. I couldn’t put it down!

Unbelievably good. Knock out good. Especially given what is happening in Russia right now.
tense slow-paced

An amazing thriller, until you remember it's a true story and feel sickened by how this could actually happen and still does happen around the world.

Reads like a spy thriller, but it is a true story. Not only based on real events, the book is current. I remember hearing reference to these occurrences on the news. Bill Browder became a ruthless, daring investor in the unruly world of post Soviet Russia. There were many other ways to be a “capitalist”. I don’t feel too sorry for his travails. He has put his loved ones, his associates, and himself in gave danger.
I do feel compassion for Magnitsky and his family. Nevertheless, Bill Browder has written an excellent book and kept Sergei Magnitsky’s story alive. I was surprised to learn about Obama and Kerry’s reluctance to support the Magnitsky Law.
The events described in the work lead up to questions about Trump’s business deals in Russia and why the Russian leadership would be hell bent on getting a pro-Russia president into office. Also, the blatant doublespeak, lying, and threats that the president demonstrates on a daily basis are mirrored in actions by Russian leaders.

Absolutely unbelievable and eye-opening. So fascinating and well written that once you start reading you can't put it down. Strange that Browder doesn't seem to realize or have any self-reflection about the American greed that underlies the incredible Russian side of his story.

An amazing book.

It thrillingly follows Browder’s investing adventures in Russia and his battle with barbaric oligarchs.
It reveals the hypocrisy and lawlessness in Russia.
And it describes the tragic ordeal of Sergei Magnitsky.
His success in punishing human rights’ abusers sends the message that the Russian elite is not invincible.
Thank you Browder for this eye opening, sobering account of what Russia is today.
