The previous too books finally cumulated in what I would say is a satisfying way. The world building and setting of a pre colonization Central America, war between gods and their avatars, unique and diverse POVs, and political intrigue paid off. The characters overall had more purpose than the previous book, and everything is wrapped up nicely. And the epilogue really tugs.

Roanhorse’s writing style is captivating and immersive, but some characters lack depth. The first 3/4 of this book is great but the ending is disappointing and happens way too quickly. So many main character deaths and the complete destruction of Tova happen too quickly. Then the ‘epilogue’ of sorts is vague in the wrong places and focuses too specifically on others. Either give me a fleshed out denouement or a very succinct one.
