That ending! Sweet, sad, beautiful...definitely made me choke up. I loved this as the conclusion to the trilogy. It was a bit on the dense side – I think that it could easily have been two or even three books – and the author told a lot of the story rather than showing and you could get whiplash switching between the different character perspectives, but it worked. The narrative structure never felt like it floundered and there was never a time that the pace seemed to lag. I love Xiala and Serapio balking fate. I'm not super happy with how Naranpa's story turned out: Xiala killed Balam, so her dream walking was for naught. And while it did advance the plot and more or less destroy and reset the city of Tova, her final resistance of the sun god felt a little contrived and her whole ending was kind of unsatisfying, like her whole character arc amounted to nothing but a plot contrivance rather than the statement on class, knowledge, and wisdom that it originally seemed to be set up for. Any weaknesses aside, though, I loved this and am very happy with the way things wrapped up in the end.

I loved this trilogy and this was a good ending. But because there were a lot of povs, I sometimes felt like we haven’t heard from some of them in like 100 pages. Okoa’s death was expected, but I had lulled myself into a false sense of safety, so his death hit me hard.
