I was really excited for this one, considering it contains my favorite trope in enemies-to-lovers, but it just had really poor execution. Grace's ex shows up, and she actually considers a life with her, despite us never ever seeing what she really got out of that relationship. Just a lot of telling and not showing. And then there was the team up with Grace and Kinsey's moms... along with the trope of miscommunication... a lot of promise that just fell flat.

I didn’t expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. I mean, it looked fun and sweet, and it’s all that, but I was also caught by surprise at how well-written it is.

Kinsley Scott doesn’t believe in love, which doesn’t stop her from being a successful romance author under the name Laurel Lake. Grace Harper is a fan, and also happens to be Kinsley’s roommate Leah’s childhood best friend. When her cheating girlfriend breaks her heart, Grace, needing a change of scenery, accepts Leah’s invitation to spend a few days (or more) at her place in Philadelphia. She soon finds out her idol isn’t all she seems to be on social media and in her writing. Kinsley and Grace are polar opposite. So of course they fall in love, without realizing it.

There are a few irritating moments, so much miscommunication I wanted to shake Grace and Kinsley (mostly Kinsley) at times. But there are a lot more very funny and / or very sexy scenes. Some are absolutely delightful, with memorable lines…

Be still my heart

Sunsets and Shades delivers everything you could want out of a modern/contemporary romance. Hot club scenes, hotter sex scenes, enemies to frenemies to lovers, deeply relatable characters on both sides and the inevitable falling for someone you know you shouldn’t. Give this a read! You’ll love it!

Grace and Kinsley are to very strong characters with some unfinished old feeling they need to get past. I can't help but be a litle frustrated with Kinsley writing romance stories and being so against love. I know she was hurt in the past and I'm glad Grace called her out on her it. Both moms in this story are sweet and funny. I would never trust Becky again after she dumped Grace who is a sweetheart. I always enjoy Erica Lee's books. Her stories are so true to life with all the feeling that go with it. Jessica did a great job narrating this book.

Grace meets her favorite author just to find out she is awful and nothing like the books she writes.

As Grace is staying with her best friend, who happens to be friend of the author, both the writer and Grace are forced to get along as they share a place. This causes some hilarious discussions between them, as they are so different from each other, starting with: one believes in love and relationships, and the other doesn't.

I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two protagonists.

I loved her other book “anyone but her” but this one just rubbed me the wrong way from the get go. Arrogant and rude Kinsley. Meek and boring Grace. I couldn’t get into this. Had to stop around 1/3 into it.

52% of the way through. Kinsley is too self-centered and immature for me to care about the "romance." The group seems to spend a lot of time at clubs and bars, which just doesn't interest me.

I wanted to like this one and at first I did. But I can't continue it. I just don't connect with either of the characters at all and if I'm being honest, I mostly find them annoying and the story predictable.
