It took me a little while to really get into it. The beginning was a bit slow, but after about 100 pages, I was completely hooked—I honestly couldn’t put it down. The characters grew on me, the worldbuilding became richer, and the plot twists really picked up the pace. And that cliffhanger?! Oh my days, I just couldn’t wait to see what happens next, so I immediately moved on to the next book.

Adarna is just the sweetest — I definitely kept thinking about my little ginger cat, who’s definitely not a dragon, but sometimes pretends to be one.

I also really appreciated seeing a character with a disability, yet their disability wasn’t the focus of the story—it just happens that this character is that way. I deeply empathized with Violet on this, as I have similar symptoms myself, so it was refreshing to see this representation handled so naturally.

I absolutely rooted for Dain until the last second. But then—the plot twist! That betrayal broke me a little.

And Xaden?? This baddie is... Gooooood!

In the end, I’m giving it 3.75 stars. The slow start made it a bit hard to stay engaged at times, and while it’s not officially YA, it definitely reads like one in places—with a few moments that made me cringe a little.

I have not devoured a book so fast and ravenously since I was a kid. Was hooked by the first chapter and was never bored at any point.

The romance/sex scenes are cringy. Yucks. Hate them. The world is cool. The misappropriation of Gaelic language/culture, not cool.

The worldbuilding was alright. I was just overwhelmed in the beginning with 1. the explanation of the world. 2. too much characters were introduced. I didnt find all necessary, especially not describing their appearance and killing them soon afterwards. I did like the diversity in looks and sexuality, it was refreshing to see it so casually. As one does, i had some expectations of what the book was gonna be like and they didn't exactly meet. I found the writing style less mature, than i thought it would be, and i didn't really care for anything other than the two mains having scenes together. I actually only kept reading for Xaden, sorry not sorry.

I'm thinking that i might also be a bit too old for this series, because a lot of things were bit preditable. I think i would've been obsessed with Fourth wing had i been a teen. Also, why are they so young? In my head i'm automatically making them older, fuck that.
