As someone reading not for religious value, but for moral guidance and other perspectives, it was okay as most of it was tied to gods. I am very much atheist, and so any value tied to worshiping a deity has no value to me.

This is unlike anything I've read before offering reflection on complex topics such as virtue, reincarnation and one's true purpose in life. I thoroughly enjoyed this and while it is a Hindu scripture, I think it applies universally with the messages it sends in relation to focusing on and doing good. I think you could spend hours pouring over the text to extract all it's advice in every one of it's intricate verses. From a first reading ideas around our state of mind, the intention behind actions and desire and passion vs knowledge and purity really stood out to me. This neat translation acts as practical guide for attaining inner peace.

A easily understood and eye opening look into an important religious text that surpasses any one religion and encompasses the love that all religions strive for, and the overwhelming power and omnipresence that a higher power has in our world and lives. The way that Easwaran discusses the varied points of the Bhagavad Gita makes it easy to follow and understand cultural and historical text that would be otherwise lost to the uninformed reader. I highly recommend this book to anyone, of any religion, to better understand some of the foundational beliefs of Hinduism.
