I need to tell myself often, as I read this, that this is a book about someone in someone else's memory. Therefore, it's like telling myself to be okay whenever Shatner put himself in comparison or parallel into the story he's telling. Does it annoy me? Maybe just a bit. But overall, it's interesting to see that actually Kirk and Spock isn't as close as we thought they are.
But perhaps that's what friendship is all about.

One would think that because I read this book so quick that it was a fantastic book. It really wasn't a *fantastic* book. It was a good one. It was more fascinating, accessible, and relatively short (300 pages...ish). For those that are fans of Star Trek and, perhaps, the other work that Leonard Nimoy did, this is a must-read as it gives some good behind-the-scenes looks at life and the relationship between Nimoy and The Shatner.

I'm not certain what I was hoping for in this book; perhaps a bit of understanding of the relationship between Shatner and Nimoy? The book reads as though Shatner is sitting with the reader and just talking talking talking. The order is simple enough in that it tries to follow what was going on with both men during the years with some insights into what each was doing and sometimes thinking. Kind of like a he-said/she-said but told in a Shatner-says "mode".
I wanted to read through the book as quickly as I could but think the best way would probably have been with a bit of a break between chapters. In that fashion, re-reading som topics that get repeated would not have felt like it got in the way of the story's/stories' flow. (If anything made this book sometimes feel like a ramble it is during these points). I guess it would make a decent audio book, though.
Did I learn a bit more about Nimoy? Yes. A bit more about Shatner? Not really. Did my opinions change about either of them as creators or men? Nope.

Here’s the thing— is this a cute fun read if you’re a fan of Star Trek and the actors who played these characters? Sure. That being said, I should’ve been more mindful of the fact that this was written by William Shatner, ergo, there’s going to be a lot of Willam Shatner inside this “biography,” along with almost zero self awareness or accountability. I think this was made even worse by the fact I listened to the audiobook, so his tone of borderline-victimization in stories he was clearly the bad guy got exhausting very fast. What this book could’ve greatly benefited from is a stronger editor.

Thoroughly enjoying story of two men who shared an amazing and public life together through a great and popular television show. This book has been criticised for being a lie and I don't think that is fair. I have a firm belief that they were not friends throughout their entire shared history and in Shatner's own way, he does highlight this and apologise for the things he may have done, but how do you get angry or blame someone who is the product of Hollywood, narcissism is so encouraged that he probably isn't even aware of it.

For those who appreciate the big personality of William Shatner or the great Leonard, this is well worth a read.

An engaging listen (audiobook) read by William Shatner himself.  One thing I didn't expect to learn was about the psychology of the acting world. I learned more about Leonard than I did by reading I am Spock, and I am Not Spock, and learned about Shatner in the proces .  Having the author read it was the icing on the cake.
