This work in narrative fiction is beautiful, interesting and has a nice variety of perspectives from those fighting for the north and the south American Civil War. It is also excellent audiobook.

Killer Angels is a fine literary creation. It was a bit hard to follow at first with all the characters and not being well acquainted with civil war military history. The actual battle scenes and the strategy associated with Gettysburg was very engaging. I gave this book a fourth star because it was well written and well conceived.

This book was written in a very interesting way. A lot of stream of consciousness going on. It was hard for me to keep track of what exactly was going on with the Battle of Gettysburg (which the book is centered around) but the maps interspersed throughout did help a bit.

The best work of historical fiction I have ever read. The scope of the entire battle of Gettysburg and the loneliness of command are very effectively conveyed by viewing the battle through the eyes of three different commanders: Confederates Robert E. Lee and James Longstreet, and the Union's Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. The story of Colonel Chamberlain and the 20th Maine at Little Round Top is positively gripping.

I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure about a war novel but went with it anyway and ended up enjoying Shaara's writing. He went into each characters emotions and feelings of why they were fighting the war.
