The character development was phenomenal for Jorgen. After his parents were brutally killed at the end of the last story, we watched his character break down and embrace denial during grief. With the help of FM and Juno, his character went through mental recovery and he used this as an opportunity for growth.

I already really enjoyed Jorgen's personality and this novel really just expanded on his character in depth. By the end, I became really looking forward to his reuniting with Spensa, presumably in Defiant.

I had a hard time following the constant fighting throughout this novel. The fight scenes are to be expected in a series like this, but some of them felt like they were added purely to introduce plot critical characters, rather than what would have happened at that time.

This is probably one of the best books I have read. Each book in skyward flight collection comes together in this final book. It has so much going on at times, but I loved every second of it.

not like this was *bad* but jorgen is just kind of boring

A lot going on here! Like watching action movie combined with some deep character developing scenes - so something hollywood normally doesn't archive nowadays.

I decrease half a star because I really don't get why Nedd is decreased to kind of an really dump wise cracker side character. He was introduced in flight school with some wisdom - why and where did it get lost?!?

Emotional!

Man, it was hard to follow at first because it just jumped right in and I remember nothing from cytonic or the other novellas. However slowly things came back to me and I enjoyed the story. Maybe 3.5

I feel like I just read a short version of Kaladins' character development. It was awesome to read a male viewpoint in this series, especially one dealing with anxiety and immense pressure. To me, Jorgen feels like the most relatable and realistic character in this series (thus far).

As always with this man, his magic systems and world just expand endlessly. Bravo!

My attention is waning with this series, but I still want to finish it. Although is anything ever *really* finished with Sanderson???
adventurous

My poor baby Jorgen went through it in this novella, and I really just wanted to give him a tight hug and tell him everything was going to be alright. This was definitely my favorite of the novellas, I loved seeing his character development and I'm glad all of the trauma and pain he was going through wasn't glossed over. Honestly, I love him so much. Spensa, come here take care of your boyfriend, he desperately needs a hug right now.

SpoilerAlso, I'm so damn proud of him. Who would have thought that Skyward's Jerkface would be standing here as Admiral of DDF a few books later, you know?

Lastly, I just need to say I squealed loudly every time Jorgen called Spensa his girlfriend, or talked about how much he missed her, or simply gushed over her weirdness. They're everything to me. I'm so glad we'll finally get them together again in the fourth book. It was about damn time.
