Beautiful artwork and lovely poems about the seasons and nature - read this with my 9 year old at bedtime and he liked it but it would definitely be good for younger kids too. Very soothing.

Love the recipes and lists in this book. The illustrations are gorgeous.

The illustrations in this poetry collection practically leap off the page. I found myself more enamored with the pictures than the poems.

At first, the pictures were what I loved, and then, poems started to win my heart. Cherry Blossoms first, then Honey, Lizard (Quick as a blink!), and Night really did it. "The moon sails white and silver in the dark sky."

Five Reasons to Keep Chickens gave me a chuckle or two and Snow Song was just gorgeous.

It was a peaceful beautiful book.

I was somewhat doubtful about this book, but I is far more impressive than I thought. The inclusion of 'all kinds' of natural environments makes this book truly outstanding.

This could become a staple in every house.

An absolutely gorgeous book that is also educational and entertaining. I can't imagine how long it took to write and illustrate the many wonderful poems. Just when I thought I had a favorite spread, another came along to take my breath away. I think this book could serve as a wonderful model for students to write and illustrate their own nature poems. It's a shame in its current format that you'd be limited to viewing one spread at a time; maybe this would be a good candidate to purchase as an eBook and project onto a whiteboard. Although it's a picture book of sorts, it's definitely appropriate for middle school as well. I haven't read many picture books this year, but this seems worthy of the Caldecott.

There are a couple of standout poems in here, but overall, I found the content lackluster and extremely basic. It sounds more like it was written by a scientist explaining things to a very small child, than by a poet. However, the three stars are very much in reference to the illustrations, which are honestly some of my favorites in a long time. They are dynamic, textural, and vigorous, and really walk the like between the loose, graphic style kids seem to like and a more lyrical pictures of days gone by. Look at the pictures, but don't bother with the text.

I'm so glad I revisited this book!! I spent a little more time enjoying this than I did last time and I was really able to enjoy the art more this time.

The art is entrancing to me. I loved all of the eclectic textures and fantastical yet realistic style. The poetry isn't particularly stunning, but it's not intended to be, I don't think. This is one I would consider owning, but more likely I'd like to keep my own nature journal for the year.

The poems are lovely and the pictures have great depth. It's subtitled "A First Book of Nature" which in my mind indicates a very young audience but this book is far to sophisticated for that age group, the size is also awkward for small hands.
