I can’t believe I’m saying this but… DNF at 35%
I have loved and cherished this series. All books were binged and 4-stars.
This installment, however, is so boring and SO SLOW.
The first 6 chapters are entirely irrelevant. Things start to pick up at chapter 7 (when the case is presented) but then it peters out again.
Pages and pages of British history that doesn’t belong, descriptions of iconic British stuffs like this is a travelogue… so much stuff that doesn’t matter to the case or characters… Who needs another lesson on Anne Boleyn?
I also found the random flashback chapters to « then » bizarre and not a good literary tool here. It didn’t fit or work…
I also quickly tired of Stevie’s lack of confidence. Every few sentences she compares herself to someone else (and comes up lacking/putting herself down) she also is obsessive about her BFs new friend even though the girl doesn’t seem interested in “stealing” David - so exhausting
