This series is supposed to be a mystery/thriller. The mystery was weak and took a huge back seat to a boring romance I couldn’t care less about and trying not to get in trouble with the headmaster. I read like 80% and skimmed the end. Meh. Very disappointing.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced reader copy!
Stevie Bell is back and this time, she’s in England! While her friends are busy thinking about college applications and futures, Stevie is preoccupied with two things: her relationship with David, and (of course) murder. David’s new friend Izzy introduces Stevie to a new case, and when Izzy’s aunt goes missing, it becomes clear that Stevie needs to solve it. She may even need to lie to do it.
This has so much of the wit and charm of the others in the series, and I appreciate the references to other mysteries (I kept shouting about Orient Express while I was reading this one…particularly since this is called nine liars!). I did feel like there was a little bit of odd pacing between the murder mystery and Stevie’s romance with David—and I honestly was a bit over David by the end!! I like that this has been left open for another installment!!

This was i think the worst book maureen wrote. 2 stars my be harsh but i felt like it was so crazy that they can just go over to london to solve this murder. the idea had a lot of moving parts & how maureen kept them straight i will never know, but stevie didnt need to have a romantic partner, let alone the book ends on a cliffhanger about her weird partner.
Highly recommend this series. So much fun to read.
Five stars to all Stevie Bell books merely for existing. However, if I’m being honest with myself the cliffhanger ending miffed me a little and the murderer reveal did not blow me away. Luckily, I mostly read these books for the characters and they are as delightful as ever in book 5.
It was fine enough for most of the book, but WHAT WAS THAT ENDING!? If there’s a book six, David needs to be the one to go.
