A fun and quick read, but probably the least strong for me of the five thus far. I also could always have much less David than there was. Like, zero David. Negative David, even. Nevertheless, I will be obsessively checking for the release of book 6 for the rest of the year.

Much more tightly focussed (?better edited) than the previous instalment. Engaging and interesting with nine additional well drawn characters.

Boy, do I wish i had loved this book more.

Don't get me wrong: I love the characters. They're the best part of this series, and I love Stevie, I think we would be best friends.

For me, it was the plot that felt a little lackluster. It's not that there wasn't a solid plot,
it's more that I didn't feel like there were enough clues, yknow? We only got a few hints as to who the killer was, and by the time Stevie revealed it, I didn't even know I was supposed to have a guess. Usually in these books you have an idea of who the killer probably was, because the author gives you plenty of clues and is constantly making you think about the next thing that happened and how that ties into your own theory about the events of the novel. There wasn't enough things that happened, at least in relation to the murders, where I felt like I could confidently have a decent guess.

I'm also... uh... really mad about how it ended? I feel like ending the book with David just straight up kissing another girl is not good author practice. Was it a good cliffhanger? Yes? Other than for shock value, did it make sense to end the book that way? No?

This one was definitely less enjoyable than the previous standalone Stevie Bell mystery, both in terms of the cold case itself and the present day situation. I was also very disappointed by the ending! But it was still a fun read, and I look forward to the next one.

What a twisted way to end the book. Maureen needs to drop the next one ASAP

I love the Stevie Bell mysteries and all of the characters who inhabit them!
(Except, currently, David... IYKYK)
I hope I don't have to wait too long to find out where Nate, Stevie, Janelle, and Vi are off to after graduation and what adventures their new locales will lead to!
