Two stars was truly generous but i will give Miss Johnson grace because her other books have been solid 3/5 stars so i cannot say i was surprised. Found out this is my most read author this year but i devour these audiobooks like they are manna from Heaven and i cannot contain myself

Because of school things, this took me MUCH longer to read than it should have. I had pre-ordered this and added it to my TBR pile when I got it. Because there was a space of time between those actions, I had forgotten this was part of the Stevie Bell series. And it does not start out with Stevie or her friends, which confused me for a bit. Ultimately, this wasn’t as good as the other Truly Devious stories. Maybe because it could have (is?) a stand-alone. The only thing that carries over is Stevie, her friends, and the fact that Stevie solves mysteries. I will say that I was thankful Ellingham didn’t have another murder on its grounds. That would have been embarrassing for the school

I didn’t really like David in the original trilogy but in box in the woods he was lowkey peak? Like he was great. But in this book? Ohhhh boyyyyyy I’m going to milk him. I mena i was always like wtf David it’s ur gf why are u being an ass??? And then like I 1/2 get when Angela died and he was trying to be there for Izzy bc it’s her aunt. But your long distance girl friend is leaving in the morning like at least go see her? And then he broke up with her (a day after taking her virginity)(and in the middle of the street the day she leaves to go back to America?) because he was “intimidated”???? Fucking fragile male ego Istg. And then Izzy was like “he still likes you” and then HES WITH ANOTHER GIRL?!? LORD OH LORD SOMEONES GOING TO DIE AND ITS PROBABLY GOING YO BE DAVID

I don’t really think this series needed to keep going after book 3 but hey I’m gonna keep reading them.
This one was my least favorite. Too much of it was focused on Stevie’s issues with David. Who lowkey sucks in this book btw. I only started to care when the mystery aspect became more prominent. That part was interesting, I loved the BBC crime drama feel it had. But overall the most forgettable in this series.
