This was incredibly emotional, and covers a lot of important insights into the trans experience. Rating is just for the ending and parallel murder mystery storyline.

Potentially the best book I’ve read by Jodi Picoult! There is one major plot twist about halfway through the book that completely changes the course of the book. It’s fascinating to read the book from two perspectives, one that goes backwards and the other that goes forwards

I found it was stressful, intense and emotionally taxing.  There were too many traumatic experiences for me.  It was not enjoyable.  
That being said- it is a well written book.  It’s an interesting plot.

A tense mystery that was either a touch too long or I felt like it was tough to finish. The plot could have been more interesting in my opinion.

Instead of a cis man on trial for murdering a trans woman, it could have been about a trans woman on trial for a cis man’s murder. The authors could have explored how the community reacted to a queer suspect, and the unfortunate trope of the gay person dying could have been avoided.
