I am loving this so far. I am glad to have a chance to read a new long series that features Spider-Man and some of these other great characters.

I am new to comics and have decided to read this after reading Avengers Dissambled that I read after watching all the MCU movies. I am diving into all the comics and many told me to read this run by Bendis.

So far so good. Lots of villians on the loose and an interesting blend of Avengers so I look forward to see how the crazy hodge podge of a beginning morphs into something great based on what I am told.

I dunno man, Bendis is weird. He's got an ear for naturalistic dialogue, but that often leads to all of his characters having the same voice. He knows how to make a page-turner but it all feels like fluff in the end.

Like all of this era's Bendis stuff, this is extremely post-9/11 material. Slightly deconstructionist. I mean look, the original Avengers were formed to fight a mythological trickster god. This iteration is to stop something as mundane as a prison break (super-villainy notwithstanding). Wolverine is on the team because Bendis wanted the Avengers to be the Justice League, but also because Captain America is accepting of the fact that sometimes you've gotta go Jack Bauer on people to get what you want. This feels wrong.

I think people didn't really understand what superheroes were supposed to mean after 9/11. It took a while to figure out. Bendis is trying to take the first couple steps, which, while perhaps valid, feels dated in its cynicism.

Meanwhile, still not a fan of David Finch's work.

Just like a recent Marvel movie

This volume reminds me of a good bit of the recent Marvel movies-bloated, badly paced, and with a plot that simply makes no sense. The dated ‘90s art also did not help make the story more appealing either.

This is the first Avengers comic I've ever read, so I didn't understand all the references. It was more funny than I was expecting, which was nice, with language that was witty but still seemed natural. For someone like me, whose only seen the movies, this was a neat entry spot (though I may back up to the last arc before I go on with this one.)

Very nearly a 4 star, but something is making me choose 5 instead. Maybe this was so different from the DC graphic novels I've been reading and I needed a breath of fresh air, maybe it's the magic of Bendis, maybe I just really liked seen Wolverine and Luke Cage in the same panels.

Besides, how can I not love the fact that Tony has not one but two giant pictures of Captain America in his living room?

I'm super into this. I love solo Cap stories, obviously, but I also really enjoy seeing Cap as part of a team. So this whole Cap building a new team thing is so good. I have loved the Captain America & Spider-Man interactions whenever I have stumbled into them. This is making me think I should seek them out more.

(Though, not loving that I know this team is gonna be torn apart way too soon. Why can't we just all be friends.)

Another piece in the puzzle, but not a particularly good one. David Finch's art just isn't my thing.

Exciting reboot of a classic series. Bendis is a great writer; the new Avangers lineup (Cap, Iron Man, Spider Woman, Spider Man, Luke Cage, Sentry, Wolverine) is unexpected and fun.
