I never read this one as a child - I think that the only book written by Dahl that I read was Matilda- but I finally got around to reading this one - it's a fairly short story... and I didn't like it - nor do I think I would like it as a child. I don't like how it paints women in a bad light - and I think that if I read this as a child I would be genuinely scared and wondering if my teachers were actually witches. It's a pretty short and weird book - it's about a boy (the narrator- we never get his name) and his grandma. After he loses both of his parents he moves in with grandma. She tells him all about the witches- they have no toes, have blue spit, are bold and wear wigs and are genuinely nasty and hate kids. So he grows afraid of them - then she falls ill and they go to a hotel - he is trapped in the same room with 200 witches, they catch him and turn him into a mouse - he stays a mouse, doesn't change back, another boy is also turned into a mouse and grandma heavily implies that he got killed by his parents because they couldn't turn him back into a boy and the mouse narrator gets the revenge by turning all the witches into mice. This book also concludes on a slightly heavier note since the narrator talks to his grandma and she doesn't hold back - she tells him that mice only live for three years and human-mice live around 9 years. The book then ends with them going around the world defeating all the remaining witches. It's a pretty short and weird book and I think that this might be one of my least favourite books I've read so far.
