THE KIND OF SERIES THAT WOULD MAKE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH FANTASY ALL OVER AGAIN.
the darkling and alina are like the walmart versions of serapio and nara.
i thought this book would be a four, but the end makes it a five for me. serapio, i will support every wrong thing you do. i am now a serapio apologist solely because he looks so cool doing it. seriously, this book is so epic, every movement can be translated to the big screen and people will have goosebump. it portrays the complexity of good and evil and everything in between very well. i love the quote about how sometimes kindness is not the way forward, since i am all for vengeance and angry characters. i need the last book to come out like now, i’m hungry.

Very solid continuation of the series. I continue to be quite engaged in the plot and the characters. There feels like even more going on in this book somehow, with several new characters introduced in addition to the old, and I'm very curious how everything will be wrapped up in only one more book.
While Naranpa grew on me a little in this book, I still found her storyline the most annoying. This isn't entirely due to her, but I continue to be frustrated by a character that feels out of sync with all of her life experiences and accomplishments up to that point -- she feels like an 18-year-old sheltered girl instead of somebody who came from a slum to become one of the most powerful people in the city.
This book is also shorter than the last, and I felt that the most with Naranpa's storylines, which I felt needed a little longer to fully develop. We find out her brother is doomed to die and he died way too quickly after that reveal -- the emotional impact just didn't have time to develop. I also don't know that I totally understand how Naranpa got to the place she did to leave Tova to Serapio, and I wish we had any hint of what she was going to do next.
Serapio's storyline was super interesting, and the final interaction with him and Naranpa was not what I saw coming. VERY curious to see how that will all progress!
