I was really excited to read this book. It seemed to have so many tropes I love reading about in fantasy. Instead it needed up being the most stereotypical fantasy book I’ve read. Plus the unending times the words “slave” and “whores” that FREQUENTLY popped up really made me feel uncomfortable. Sure, I’d love to hop into this new, fantastical world full of things like misogyny and human right abuse. It got tired very quickly.

I did enjoy the structure of the plot being told as a “story” with footnotes. It was an interesting take. But the world building didn’t click well with me and so many of the characters felt flat and boring.

Perhaps my expectations were just too high.
