Sad short story, but also filled with hope at the same time. I would recommend this to a very young audience that may be expierencing grief for the first time. It is powerful, but also very melancholy throughout. Be prepared to at least have a few tears well up on the side of your eyes wishing to be set free when you get further into the story.

I read this somewhere between elementary and middle school. I can’t remember when, but I remember this book very fondly. I really liked it.

For such a short book, it packs a powerful punch.

My niece read this book for fifth grade and I never had. Well written, hauntingly sad story about the cost of war. I am glad I read it. (And, I made a crane from the instructions included at the back of the book, putting one in the book before I returned it to the library. Time well spent.)
