Si no se empeñara tanto en combatir el mito de las abducciones de extraterrestres , el libro sería mejor. ¡Pero les dedica más de la cuarta parte de los capítulos!
Critical thinking is so important in today's world, and this book is all about critical thinking. From how ignoring it lead to mass murder of so many in witch trials, to today where it seems that more people believe the validity horoscopes then not. Being able to distinguish fact from "alternative fact" or drivel.
He makes a lot of valid points that are still incredibly relevant today (e.g. the importance of critical thinking, the value of education) but this book is still a) very dated, and b) just not an enjoyable read imo. I share a lot of his views re: the wonder and value of science and the universe but there’s an air of ‘I’m better than you because I believe this and you believe that’ to some of the writing that's off-putting.
I enjoyed Cosmos so much more and if you’re looking to venture into the works of Sagan, I would highly recommend starting there instead.

Excellent, I have recommended this to friends and colleagues who need their own balloney detection kit.
Sagan encourages critical thinking and handles touchy subjects such as pseudoscience and religion and its believers without being condescending...his writing is intelligent and at times humorous. Enlightening read!

Everyone should read this.
While I found Carl Sagan's words to be nothing short of insightful and enlightening, there are times when his passages seem to not necessarily coincide with one another. At times it felt like entire chapters belonged elsewhere.
All in all, I did thoroughly enjoy the book and his instructive thoughts on the importance of highlighting science and skepticism in our current world climate and daily lives. I may enjoy this book better as a second read through than the initial.

An amazing book overall. While some of the examples used to talk about general scientific literacy in the US (UFOs/aliens, prevalence of TV in America as the dominant form of information consumption, and others) were a little dated, the overarching concepts of the importance of scientific literacy are extremely relevant to the United States today.
This is the third Carl Sagan book I have read. Each time I finish one of his books, I end up thinking: “I really wish Carl Sagan were alive today.” I always wonder what his commentary on science and today’s world would be.
