This book, as other reviewers have noted, may be a little dated, though I would argue only in some of the topics. The main argument of the book, that scientific thought processes are important for our future are very modern. Skepticism and education are stressed as a survival skill.
This was a book I will recommend to many friends and family. I can see it causing some negative response because it does not spare religion from scrutiny. If you listen close though, much like Hawking did in his books, the idea of a supreme being is never denied, just challenged based on scientific evidence. I will let you judge for yourself if the arguments are valid.
I wouldn't call this life-changing, but it certainly was a great opportunity for self-improvement.

A wonderful book focusing on the need for clear, rational, and skeptical thought. Sagan’s text is just as powerful today as it was when it was released.

Sagab is brilliant and Cary Elwes (along with Seth MacFarlane) do a great job with narration. This book has inspired me to question what I don't know to combat fear with curiousity.
However, because of the time this book was written in, though Sagan was progressive for his time, while his science is sound, some of his beliefs were dated.

A scattershot but heartfelt defense of science and a broadside against superstition and misinformation. This book feels dated (Satanic scares and alien abductions figure prominently) but the fact is, its science evangelism remains as relevant now as ever.

It’s Carl Sagan, so you know it’s going to be spot on. But the relevancy of this book, over 25 years old, amongst todays anti-intellectual and anti-science attitudes is borderline uncomfortable. It makes me sad to see how much further we have deviated away from reason and decency. Great book.

I can see it most likely came from good intentions, but oh boy...The amount of times this book makes the same mistakes and assumptions it's trying to caution against is honestly hilarious.
