The worst book in the series so far. While Red Rising is not my favourite, I was so enthralled by the characters and world introduced that I couldn't stop. The plot and writing are both improved compared to the first novel. Despite that, the slower pacing and widening of scope led to an overall less enjoyable experience. Of the new characters introduced, Emphraim was the only one that I clicked with. The only true sin of Iron Gold is that the characters didn't click for me. While the standout moment for me was the Cassius' duel at the end , that was the only true stand out for me. Still a 4/5, just not as great as the rest of the series

3.75/5 10 years after the happenings of Morning Star, Darrow returns to face a new threat, namely the Ash Lord.
While I still enjoyed this book, the first 300 or so pages were notoriously slow-paced, mainly because of how long it took to set up the backstory of the five characters who’s POV we follow.
