This was such a cute read! I’ve always loved regency-era romances, but there’s something about queer ones that just hit different. The stakes are so high for these characters because, in a time when women couldn’t be alone with a man without risking their reputation, queer men had to hide who they were completely - while expected to still marry a woman - or else be sent to prison(and possibly get killed like Mile's previous partner). It’s a whole different level of tension and expectation since everyone’s counting on them start a family and continue their family legacy.
In this story, Charlie is set to marry a lovely woman, but he’s very gay and prefers to sneak off to Molly bars with his found family. He has a very funny habit of collecting smut (which sounds like your average Kindle unlimited reader) and tries to track down his favorite authors for signatures. When he meets him (secret identity and all), things really take off between them. Their connection feels so real, and they’re both just genuinely good guys trying to find a way to be themselves and be with each other.
If you like historical romance but are over the standard Bridgerton-style stories, this book is such a fun change. I already returned it to the library and grabbed the second one because I enjoyed it so much!

A good historical mm romance full of love, debauchery, and a pinch of comedy that will certainly please the fans of this genre.

This was very smutty. Which I should have expected from the blurb. But there really wasn't much more to it. The plot was okay. ish. The ending was absurd. The characters existed. It didn't really inspire much feeling. The narrator was annoying. I only finished it because I was out of borrows from Hoopla for the month, and I wanted something to listen to.
It was fine and I'll read more by this author but it wasn't particularly memorable either. The ending required a LOT of interference by other characters that didn't quite ring true based on the level of friendship indicated by interactions earlier in the book. The writing was clunky in places but I assume that will improve as this was the author's first novel.
