lovely story but with a bit more telling then showing at times

This book had a lot of promise. However, it was unnecessarily complicated and it was completely closed door. Closed door is not always a negative but this book makes it difficult to determine the intimacy occurred until someone makes a comment later to highlight it.
The idea was great. The execution didn’t work for me.

Well this was fantastic and I've already started the sequel that I thankfully have an arc for. I was so invested and the third act conflict almost had me in tears and the queer found family?! YES PLEASE. Okay, now for an attempt at a coherent review...
Charlie is a carefree hedonist who goes to get a signature from his favorite smut writer before he's forced to marry. Only problem is that his favorite smut writer, Miles, is very paranoid and thinks he's there to blackmail him...and he's also very hot. Things don't end well but Miles shows up at Charlie's house the next day with the autographed book. Only problem is that Charlie's betrothed and her mother are there and they think he's the wine sommelier! And for some reason he's a damn good wine sommelier?! And still hot. So they get together, despite Miles' misgivings (his previous partner died in jail after being arrested for being gay) and Charlie's engaged status. Of course, Charlie doesn't end up getting married but it gets VERY CLOSE. I honestly think Alma (his jilting "bride") deserves her own book because I think she might be bi. We'll see. But anyways, I'm in love and I hope there are many many many books in this series because I also need one for all of Charlie's colorful friends from the molly house.

So happy to see a queer romance where the fiancee isn't silly/an obstacle/horrible. Charlie's relationship with Alma is one of the greatest things about this book!
