Lies Lies Lies

This book is not a comfortable read at all. Alcoholism, sexual, physical and emotional abuse, animal cruelty and, as the title states, lies after lies after lies.

I genuinely think the ‘Simon’ chapters were written incredibly well in the most part. His spiral into alcoholic oblivion was pretty gruelling. The shame I felt for him was very real. The ‘Daisy’ chapters were harder to read. They were written in a dull, lifeless way, which, even though that embraced the feelings of the character, it made those chapters a less interesting read.

Lucy was written well, I liked her calm demeanour in the face of constant cold, rude, abrasive attitude from Daisy.

Darryl was an abomination. Evil to the core.

I worked out the twist around a third of the way into the book, so felt it was dragged out a little too long. The last few chapters spoilt the whole book for me; they seemed a rush to the finish line and were unrealistic. But the epilogue was even more abysmal. A totally unrealistic and unnecessary twist. Such a shame.

This was OK but not as good as her other books.

Easy to read, took a bit of a different turn than I was expecting and although I guessed most of the twists, it didn’t spoil it and definitely kept me turning the pages til the end.

Thanks to Netgalley for the chance to read this book

Christ what a book.

The narrative is so well written at times I had to take a break due to my own anger.

There are so many twists and turns in this book, I may well be a pretzel.

Veronica Henry was right by saying "Parks is the Queen of the domestic dark side"

Props to Adele Parks.

My only quarrel with this book is the finale. I wholeheartedly think the prose of inseminating yourself with the sperm of your friends husband, moments after their coitus is a stretch to say the least. I understand where Adele Parks was coming from - showing the desperation of wanting to be a mother, but it seemed rushed and ridiculous. That is the only drawback of the book. For me, anyway.
