Lots of nice twists i didn't see coming. A bit tamer than the usual books i've read from Adele, but still great.

Book: Lies Lies Lies
Author: Adele Parks
Book Series: Standalone
Rating: 3/5
Recommended For...: thrill seekers
Publication Date: September 5, 2019
Genre: Thriller
Recommended Age: 18+ (alcoholism, sexual abuse TW, animal death and abuse TW)
Publisher: HQ
Pages: 448
Synopsis: Daisy and Simon's marriage is great, isn't it? After years together, the arrival of longed-for daughter Millie sealed everything in place. A happy little family of three. And so what if Simon drinks a bit too much sometimes - Daisy's used to it, she knows he's letting off steam. Until one night at a party things spiral horribly out of control. And that happy little family of three will never be the same again.
Review: This book was ok. The book had a lot of good character development and the book had a great atmosphere around it.
However, this book was really slow paced and really hard to get into. The book was confusing and the twist was… impossible? The book also felt like it used the shock factor of the sexual abuse and the kitten death instead of spending the time to build the suspense.
Verdict: It wasn’t that good for me, but it might be for you!

Where to begin with this book
I started this book with an open mind. That is definitely what you need to get through this book.
The title itself should've been an indicator with just how many lies were told throughout but goodness it just became so full of them it was a chore to finish.
Daisy is probably the most boring character. The author tried really hard to make her likeable but there was no layers to her. She is so dramatic and all be it a little annoying.
Her relationship with Simon started off fruitful and very romantic but when they began to struggle with conceiving the relationship turned extremely toxic.
In case you didnt quite grasp from the pages and pages of description, Simon has a drinking problem. To the point where he experiences black outs. This is something that didnt sit right with me. The fateful night that Millie was hit by the car, Simon was inebriated apparently and one would assume, considering his history he would've had a black out. However, he has the common sense to switch places with Daisy and take the blame. It just doesn't add up to his character to be able to successfully do that when he cant really manage anything else in his comatose states.
Then comes Darryl. Daisy's college friend whom she had a crush on. He was toxic from the minute he was introduced. His demise was satisfying to a degree.
Daisy overall was such a weak willed character. God forbid she would have an argument with Simon over his drinking and just general lack of care for their daughter when he was drunk.
This book actually made me laugh with how unbelievable it all is. How much can happen to one character in one story.
The ending was just a joke. Daisy insemintaed herself with a condom that was just left lying around, making her best friends husband the father of their daughter. It sounds ridiculous even typing it out.
The cover of this book says gripping and moving and that it's a sunday times best seller but I'm just struggling to see how anyone could rate this book higher than 3 stars. Maybe I just have too strong an opinion but it's just not very well wrote/put together.
I think the author tried very hard with this book and it just didnt pay off. There were too many things happening and lies being told is just became too unbelievable/unrelatable

3.8 ⭐
