*Major Spoilers* I don't even know the word I want to use to describe this book. Started off pretty simple, Daisy is married to Simon who is an alcoholic, he wants one more child but finds out he's shooting blanks. They already have 1 daughter Millie. Then it goes up a notch. His alcohol drinking gets worse and worse, one night at a party they leave and he drives (drunk) and hits his daughter. Fast forward and Simon is in jail, Daisy has taken care of the daughter the whole time through her recovery and so on, Daryll who you meet earlier at the party is an old friend. He assumes Millie is his daughter, and with what the doctor said in the beginning about Simon not being able to have anymore children you assume Daisy had an affair. It doesn't lead on to make him a bad guy, cocky yes. THEN YOUR MIND WILL BE BLOWN. The last 40 pages I couldn't stop readying! Daryll raped Daisy all those years ago, now he is raping and controlling her again. There is a very scary scene where he throws poor Millie's kitten against the wall and kills it, then beats Daisy. In the end Simon gets out of jail and kills Daryll. They slowly start to work on their marriage.
AND you fibd out Simon was all along actually Millie's dad. Loved this book.

Lies Lies Lies tells the story of teacher Daisy, her husband Simon and their much longed for daughter Millie, whom they conceived naturally after many gruelling rounds of IVF – their miracle baby. They are for the most part a happy family – Millie is a talented dancer and they have a close circle of friends. Simon likes to have a drink now and then and sometimes it gets out of hand but Daisy has learned to accept it. When Simon instigates a visit to a fertility specialist to see if they might be able to conceive a sibling for Millie, he discovers that perhaps Millie isn’t his after all. Convinced that Daisy has had an affair and has been lying to him, he goes on a massive drinking spree at a party, with devastating consequences for them all.
Capturing family life perfectly, Lies Lies Lies is an engrossing story of the devastating effects alcoholism can have on a family. Simon drinks a lot and sometimes it gets out of hand and sometimes he can function normally. For the most part they are happy – they both dote on Millie and she is a much loved daughter, full of life and energy. The tragic events after the party, leave Simon in jail with Daisy unable to forgive him.
What I thought would be quite a straightforward story, ended up being thrilling, exciting and shocking and kept me totally enthralled! Adele Parks has a great talent for writing engrossing stories – this was quite a long book (more than the obligatory 368 pages anyway!) but at no point did it drag.
It explores the effects alcoholism can have on a family – both from Daisy’s point of view (the embarrassment Simon causes her and also her having to care for him when he gets in a state) but also from the alcoholic’s point of view (always thinking about how to get the next drink and even when he is forced to give it up in prison, how the need for a drink never truly goes away).
I really enjoyed this – a great dark domestic story. The characters were well written and believable and I found my sympathies shifting back and forth throughout the book! This is Adele’s 19th book (I’ve just checked and I’ve read 8 of them) and as far as I’m concerned she has gone from strength to strength. This would make a great TV series!

Slow to get going, story did pick up in the 2nd half and was captivating to a degree but didn't like the ending.

I wasn’t gripped with this book, however I knew I needed to finish it. Without giving too much away, there were many twists and the story is truly heartbreaking and harrowing. Like I said, I wasn’t gripped by this one but I’m glad I read it.

Lies Lies Lies pretty much sums it up with this one since that's exactly what's at the core. Lies in a marriage, lies between friends, the lies we tell ourselves to get through bad situations, and the lies we present to others so they won't know how bad things have gotten. The story is more domestic drama than thriller with its pacing, but there are some pretty good twists along the way. It also gets darker than I expected, so I would warn that parts of this one are tougher to read than others, and even though I don't care for trigger warnings, this book probably needs a few. Warnings or no, this one did hold my interest. It's my first read by Adele Parks and I have to say that she does weave an intriguing tale. The characters are interesting - not necessarily likable, but interesting. In fact, I found myself not really liking any of the characters, at least not the adults, but this one doesn't really require a great amount of positive feels for the characters. That's not what the story is all about. So, rather than venture on into spoiler territory, I'll just say that the story held my interest, and the writing was good, which are two biggies for me, and two reasons that I'll check out other books by this author.
