I’ve seen some reviews label this slow paced, but since I read this in a day I can’t say I agree. I don’t think that it was the best plot I’ve ever read but I did want to finish. Whilst some elements were a little predictable, some kept me on edge throughout.
The depiction of the spiral downwards of an alcoholic was very accurate and upsetting. I grew very attached the the character of Millie who just seemed so sweet. The friendship of Lucy and Connie was so lovely.
Some of my least favourite elements was the poor kitten’s death !! Why?? Another element I didn’t like was that of the “twist” being that she was driving but the writing made this rather clear? The epilogue was just strange to me..

I really didn’t like this book until the ending I was mad at the characters for most of it.
Graphic: Alcoholism, Child death, Car accident
Moderate: Domestic abuse
My favourite book! The journey you’re taken on, the rollercoaster of emotions you feel! This book was absolutely amazing! It was never predictable and there was many a time I had to close it and wrap my head around what had just happened. Will never stop recommending!!
it was good and intriguing but somewhat hard to relate to the characters and honestly too many twists and turns
First off
SO . MANY . TRIGGER . WARNINGS .
This book is not for the faint of heart! Issues such as alcholism, rape, murder , domestic violence, animal abuse (I actually can’t even with this RIDICULOUS and unneccesary scene), prison life (just to name a few!) all thrown in here, rather sloppily in my opinion.
The characters - all absolutely awful people. Honestly not a shred of care for any of them. All their relationships and connections are weirdly toxic and intertwined in a way that didn’t make sense.
The Plot - way too far fetched, completely chaotic and just I don’t even know .... I know it’s a book about ‘Lies’ but it’s just a little too much. Everything is just complete chaos and not even slightly believable or relatable.
I haven’t read Adele Parks before, and sadly I don’t think I’ll be rushing back for more honestly.
Can’t really recommend this book in good faith. Sorry

Synopsis: Daisy and Simon's marriage is great, isn't it? After years together, the arrival of longed-for daughter Millie sealed everything in place. A happy little family of three. And so what if Simon drinks a bit too much sometimes - Daisy's used to it, she knows he's letting off steam. Until one night at a party things spiral horribly out of control. And that happy little family of three will never be the same again.
Review: This book was ok. The book had a lot of good character development and the book had a great atmosphere around it.
However, this book was really slow paced and really hard to get into. The book was confusing and the twist was… impossible? The book also felt like it used the shock factor of the sexual abuse and the kitten death instead of spending the time to build the suspense.
Verdict: It wasn’t that good for me, but it might be for you!

This book is an extremely good read, however I wouldn’t describe it as a relaxing one. It’s a story woven with perpetual lies and plot twists. I enjoyed its writing style which included going back and forth between the perspectives of Simon and Daisy. The book explored difficult topics which I was invested in whilst feeling empathy for the characters. As the story developed, my opinion of each of the characters was conflicted and constantly changing.
I would recommend going into this book without a lot of information about the story because I was in constant disbelief as the lies were unfolding. Just as you think nothing else could be revealed, the last page drops another bomb shell!!
