Heaven Is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back

It's so sad to see that people read this book and still refuse to believe that Heaven is for real. This book is an incredible story of how God works in mysterious ways, but the ways that we need Him to. Jesus truly does love the children, and this is evident in how he chose to reveal Himself to a four year old on the brink on death. Colton's recovery was a miracle, and something only possible by God. I highly recommend this book.
Read this in one sitting. Such an amazing book. If you’re struggling with faith at all or want to renew your faith: please read. It’s a simple and elegant read and quick too! It makes me want to read it over and over again!!
Simplistic writing with a complex message is how I'd describe this book. I love Colton's innocence and the way he causes his father to look at all things Christian just a little bit differently. Did Colton really see Heaven? I don't suppose anyone but Colton and God really know, but his reactions and questions and statements are quite convincing. This is a heartwarming story, and if you've ever wondered about Heaven and what it might be like, this is a good place to start...other than your Bible of course.
Heaven is for Real is a fascinating glimpse of heaven through the eyes of a little boy who almost died due to a ruptured appendix.
I am a believer in heaven and it was very interesting to see heaven through the eyes of four-year-old boy. Sadly there is a cynical part of me that has doubts about the truth of the story. But I really want to believe in Colton's experience... it really did seem for real.
As a new parent, the first part of the book about how Todd and Sonja Burpo almost lost Colton was extremely difficult to read. I am a fairly stoic person and I have to admit to crying while I read. It made me want to hold my little boy a little tighter.

Borrowed from a student, I gulped this one down in one siting. Written to confirm, inspire and perhaps even comfort; this was the right book at the right time for me. The miscarried sister and long lost great-grandfather especially, spoke to me. While clunky at times in the literary sense, the immense message delivered more than made up for it.
Highly recommend.

I agree with other reviewers - a bit far-fetched. I truly believe in near death experiences, and believe something extraordinary did happen to Colton. But ... Colton's story came out slowly as his father (a preacher) asked him questions. I tend to believe they were leading questions, and I am believe Colton heard a lot of bible stories growing up and was just repeating what he heard.
And I will be honest ... it bothers me that the Burpo's did not get Colton the help he needed a lot sooner than they did. Waiting 5 days after a ruptured appendix when a child is that sick ... hard to believe.

Rated by Austin, 12 wow how can a three year old boy know that much
I want to believe this boy's story, I really do. I just found it convenient that the boy's father is a pastor. There were also some things I found really annoying about the book. What parent waits 2 days before seeking medical help when your child is throwing up every half hour? Then when the parents finally decide to bring Colton to a doctor, they drive hours instead of taking him to the closest hospital in a larger city. Strange. I also found it bizarre that the parents were surprised that their son would know Biblical terms and stories. Kids absorb everything that is around them even if it is not specifically taught to them. I found the little girl's story at the end of the book much more believable than Colton's. However, there were some things in the book I did find convincing and it is not my place to judge whether Colton really visited Heaven or not. I would like to believe he did.
Loved it! I would highly recommend this book to anyone! I loved everything about it. It is very Faith affirming!
