It felt contrived and a little hokey, but this kiddo's experiences are undeniably amazing. Regardless of the religious factors, his survival is a great story in itself. A nice, short, feel-good read.
Out of the mouth of babes comes utter heretical garbage. More readable that the redacted "Boy Who Went to Heaven", but has the spiritual nutritional value of a McDonald's meal dipped in nuclear waste.
Still mystified that so many people would believe a child would get more revelation than St. John. Just another sign that American Christianity is rot, and one is better served by going traditional if one wants a faith worth having.

I just had a hard time believing it. But that's my scientific brain for ya.
Very interesting concept. I didn't realize this was a nonfiction book until I started reading it. It definitely got my brain thinking. I definitely recommend it. It's a very quick read. I read it in about 4 hours total.
I thought this was interesting. I'm just not sure I believe it. I do hope there is a heaven, but I guess I believe you have to actually die to get there! Unless I totally missed something in the book (which is always possible) this kid didn't actually die! I kept waiting for the parents to find out he had flatlined and been brought back to life but that never happened. And being raised by a very religious mother and spending tons of time at church, I knew a lot about religion by a very early age. I find it hard to believe that the father is shocked at what his son knows about heaven and insists he didn't learn it from him or church. I'm always amazed at what kids pick up on. I'm not sure why the dad here doesn't think that's possible. So, it's a nice story but I just think it was an awful lot of holes.
After a Bible Study group discussion about heaven, a friend lent this book to me. I read a few reviews and was convinced it was going to end up on the 'unfinished' shelf. And yet, we find ourselves here... finished.
The story is a great testimony and gives a person a broader understanding of what heaven will be like. You could also read Revelations, I guess. The truth of the story is not for me to question... "Me thinks thelady man doth protest too much" crossed my mind at least once a chapter. And yet, I continued to turn the page.
I personally think that what has made this book marketable and successful is more to do with Lynn Vincent, the 'co-author'. The writing is engaging, emotional and fluid. While the book was only 150-odd pages, there was a lot of rambling and product placement (I mean really!! Is this a thing in books?). It could have easily been 80 pages or less.
So, for all my complaints, I would recommend this to people who read casually and are interested in what heaven might hold.

If we could stop ignoring children experiencing psychosis and dissociation after undergoing a traumatic medical event in favor of saying they had an out-of-body experience that made them more holy, that would be great.
I just loved this book. Whatever you do, don't see the movie.
