Very good book that tells the myths from many cultures past and complements it with a reason and rational based discussion of each topic ranging from astrononmy, genetics, plate tectonics, evolution, etc. Recommended for all folks who are not scientist or for parents of inquisitive kids.
If you're the kind of person who liked science class in high school then you probably won't find much in here that you don't already know. That said, it's a quick and fun read for those of us that enjoy science and should be required reading for those of us that still cling to myths and fables for their explanations about how the world works.
This was a nice refresher of some basic science as well as a reminder of some of myths I've learned over the years. At times I was a bit unsure of what age range Dwkins was directing this to as he explains some basic concepts but uses some fairly large vocabulary words along the way. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and, to me, totally make up for anything the text itself is lacking.
An excellent introduction to the purpose and uses of science, as well as the scientific method. In each chapter, Dawkins presents an interesting question, such as "What is the sun?" He then usually runs through a few myths purporting to answer the question, and finally gets down to science's best current answer.
I got some good chuckles out of imagining "serious" Christians (the kind who say that Catholics aren't Christians) seeing their myths lumped together with all those other myths I imagine they would dismiss as plainly untrue and silly.

Being that it's aimed at young teens, it was a bit basic for me, though I did still learn one or two things. I'm thinking I'll probably pass this on to my nieces, though for some people, it's anti-religious tone might be a bit problematic.

Lot of basic science, so not for the well informed. However explained in a new and different way.
This feels like a basic college level science (physics, astronomy, whatever covers evolution mix) course done through stories and examples rather than through labs and homework. If you've taken college level science there won't be much new in here for you, but it is well done. If you've taken even high school level physics there won't be a ton that's new, but it will likely be a refresher that's more fun than pulling out old class notes or something.

It is a great choice for someone's first science book. I loved the journey even though a lot of information is basic, everyone can find something of value on this book. Especially a young reader
