The cover of this novel is pretty but I don’t think it does the book justice. I went in expecting a breezy summer romcom but it actually touched on some intense topics I really wasn’t anticipating. This was also some really enjoyable writing, I’ll totally be reading more from this author.

4.5⭐️
Abby Jimenez writes complex character-driven plots in such an easy to understand way that you not only root for them but get fully invested in their HEA.

I love romance novels that show REAL relationships with messy characters, strong support systems, and a cast of characters that you not only root for but wish you knew in real life. Abby Jimenez delivers on all of these.

This will be a long one! So I apologize! But this book was incredible.
Without giving to much details about me or my best friends life, I will say this:
My best friend deserves the world after everything she's been through. When we would discuss about certain topics in her life, I was always empathic. However, it was difficult to understand her reasonings or choices sometimes. I always thought things logically and I always wondered why it was difficult for her to comprehend that someone was doing her harm, etc. It was very selfish and inconsiderate of me to think it would be such an easy task to do, just because I never had a problem doing it.
After finishing this book, I wept for my bestie. I wept for how alone she might have felt growing up. I wept about how hard it must have been for her, to accept that someone you loved was toxic and not worthy of her. I wept for the little girl that grew up with cracks and they only seemed to keep growing.
Ugh... if my bestie sees this... I LOVE YOU. You deserve love and for someone to care for you.
Thank you for recommending this book. I will always be your Maddy 🫶🏻

Ugh I loved this book so much! This is the second book I've read by Abby Jimenez, and she is such a wonderful writer. The exploration of trauma and the impact it can have on relationships was well done and obviously well researched. Often romance authors write broadly about trauma but never really incorporate it into the core of a character, however, this story does just that.

Justin (MMC) was written in a way to give readers a balance of an almost perfect partner but also walks the line of realistic and healthy responses when your partner has unresolved trauma. I was relieved by Justin supporting Emma's decision near the end of the book rather than guilting her with love. I also appreciated that it wasn't just one character in this book that was dealing with life transitions and trauma and rather, the two main characters were navigating each other's situations as well as their own.

I usually never read the Q&A with the author at the end of the book, but I was intrigued. Abby's reflections on Amber and some of the characters blew me away. She obviously took time and care to write this novel in a way that explores similar themes to her other books while also building on new ideas.
