I’m not entirely sure how I felt about this one. I liked the Congo setting and learning about it, but the writing was a bit too literary for me.
this book takes a relatively simple story and spins it into an unbelievably complelling epic, theres just something about the way its written that had me hooked. i would pay absurd amounts of money to dissect this in an ap lit class - this is a truly fantastic book with enough complex characters, themes, and pieces of symbolism to warrant many hours of discussion.

The second time around I appreciate so much more about this book. I could read it over and over again and still be in awe. Set in the mid to late 20th century but painfully relevant to today. We all have something to learn from it as we are just as complicit as the Price family unless we choose not to be.
