Decent. I wish they actually had conversations together and not about each other with other people.

Thoughts:
The Wild Wolf’s Rejected Mate is a tear-jerking, angsty shifter romance novel and is also my new favorite of the Five Packs Series (sorry, Killian, still love you!).

Justus and Annie are such special, nuanced main characters. Justus is headstrong, thoughtful, and sincere by nature; he desperately wants to do right by his mate and live his own happily ever after. When he finally meets Annie, he’s elated that he found his rarity–his forever–only to face immediate heartbreak upon discovering during what is supposed to be their most sacred moment as a pair that nothing is as it should be.

Annie is closed off, anxious, and lives a deeply fearful life. When fate pairs her with a gentle, hopeful and all-around loving partner like Justus, who, despite his flaws, puts a sincere effort into his relationship, she perceives him as a threat. This shatters his hopeful dreams, and mistakes were made that changed their relationship forever. When they reunite years later, during completely different seasons of their lives, maturation, understanding, and healing take over as they slowly give in to their instincts and blossoming feelings.

I have never read another female lead that I connect with more than I do with Annie. It almost feels as though the author looked into my soul, plucked Annie right out of there, and wrote her into the book. Anxiety and trauma were portrayed compassionately, and it weaved into the story perfectly.

Aside from the amazing storytelling and anxiety representation, this series is uniquely written. The world-building is unmatched, and I love how each story adds so much to the lore of the series. It’s absolutely breathtaking. At first glance, it may seem like this book is a standard shifter novel for readers with a hankering for angst, but it offers a lot more than that. There's commentary on society, technological advances, generational trauma, sexism, and history. It is truly amazing how much the author is able to fit into one book.

Cate C Wells “The Five Packs” are such a guilty pleasure read. Jumping back into the world of the Five Packs gave me such a serotonin boost.
In regards to content, this book follows the normal formula of the other books in terms of timeline (introduction to mates, mating, breaking up, and then an eventual HEA).
The lore of the shifters and their history was expanded. The FMC is someone who has mental health issues and I think the author handled it well.
I rated this book based on its genre of shifter romance.
