Raise Hell

4.14 AVERAGE

It is something between 3.5 and 4 stars. The way things were presented initially didn’t do much for me and it took me longer than it would usually take to completely hold my attention. It did get better and I enjoyed a lot the idea of the book, however I’m not sure if there’s need for a continuation? Hm, Leigh and Wilder are great, but I did not enjoy how they kept bottling things up constantly. I do hope we get to see more about the vampires and the lunar witches powers.

Hold on, I just checked and this is the author’s first published book so now everything makes more sense. 4 deserved stars for effort and creativity.

This book had just about everything I enjoy in books.

Fantasy elements ✅
Magic ✅
Political intrigue ✅
Romance ✅

Raise hell really did take me on a journey. I hurt for Leigh and how she felt so much guilt over the death of her father and brother and the shame she carried for her magical affinity. She went from wanting to get out of something to protect herself, to wanting to do everything she could to protect the people and actually make changes for the better.
Wilder 🥺 what can I say about him. Life had battered him. His entire family had been shredded to pieces. Of course he wanted revenge on those who inflicted such hurt upon his family.
👀 The tension between Leigh and Wilder 😮‍💨

This was a great read and would definitely read it again.

It does end in a cliffhanger, so bare that in mind.

Raise Hell is a fantastic debut! The first half’s world building is huge, establishing lots of moving parts and introducing a wide cast of characters, and the second half hits you like a ton of bricks. I enjoyed the whole book, but that back half was so hard to put down! You should definitely check this out if you’re a fan of urban fantasy set in alternate worlds, witches with elemental magic, vampires, political stakes, and divided factions.

Oh, and did I mention the tattooed MMC with fire magic and the royal FMC with forbidden lunar (i.e. outlawed necromantic) magic? 🤌🏻

In a modern world inhabited by witches and vampires, a princess and her guard uncover a realm-shattering secret that could undo centuries of peace between their society. But sometimes, to keep the peace, you must raise hell. This is the first book in The Eleventh Hour series, a fantasy romance filled with ancient laws, tech mixed with magic, and medium-burn lovers.

I loved this book so much! It’s one of those books I carry everywhere with me just hoping to get a chance to read whenever I can. It has elements of urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and mystery/thriller all in one. It’s giving me major Crescent City vibes!

Wilder is definitely being added to the book boyfriend list. I enjoyed Leigh’s storyline and watching her come in to her own and accept her power and fate. I appreciate the relationship between Wilder & Leigh was realistic in its development. The book ends mostly wrapped up, but with a hint of a cliffhanger to make me want the second book as soon as possible!
