I was a little ambivalent about this series when I read the first one. It seemed a little predictable in some ways. But there was enough that I enjoyed about it, and quite a few people recommended it, that I decided to continue on. I'm glad I did, because each subsequent book has been better than the last. This fourth book is no exception. And I can finally say that I'm hooked. I'm invested in the characters, the plot, and the world. I will definitely be continuing this series.

Jumping back in to October Daye & loving it! I love the mysteries & McGuire's writing is excellent. Diving straight into the next one!

All of the reviews said to give this storyline a chance and that things picked up after the first few books. Apparently, I am there! Fast-paced and full of action. Toby had to face some hard truths about herself, the people that she loves and what true immortality means. There is one thing that I did not care for in this book,
Spoiler I realize that Toby and Conner had a romance in the past that his family ended, I realize that his marriage to a crazy b****is purely political, I am STILL NOT A FAN of the kissing and hand holding etc. He is married. His wife has her issues but Toby and Conner are both aware of the partial reason for her anger and brokenness. I am not giving her a free pass for her cruelty, especially to her mother, but I also don't think it was right for Toby and Conner to parade their feelings in front of her. With that said, part of my problem with Toby and Conner's possible reunion now that he is divorced is the fact that I would really like to see a romance with Toby and the Cat King!

Every book in this series makes it better as we dive deeper into the Summerlands. Toby and her companions become more interesting as we go, and I found myself caring a lot about even the smallest side character that we've been following in some way for four books now. Can't wait to read the next!

manuel's death was cheap,
and between him and julie that's one too many "local idiot is murderously angry at toby for a death that clearly wasn't her fault" plotlines for me, but that was the only thing i didnt like about the book. sylvester continues to be a fave, loved to see him a bit strained here, especially liked
the direct acknoledgement of him as toby's dad
, raysel is... not really winning any sympathy points with her ever so tragic backstory but you tried, tybalt is painfully in love, raj and toby have a very cute dynamic, toby/connor is boring sorry, i kinda like connor as a character, but the ship........ there's nothing there. oleander was alright as a villain,
not sad to see her go,
but poison is fun. caught on to the whole
toby's been poisoned
thing fairly quickly and thus spent a while just going please.... notice something is wrong..... but it wasn't outright annoying. everything with the court of cats was excellent, but there was a bit there in the middle where
they killed lily and immediately after killed a little kitten
at tybalts court and i just. had to stop and be sad for a while before i could go back to the book.
speaking of lily i said at the start that i'd be alright if luna died but sad if lily did, so of course luna lives and lily dies
. i liked the reveals about
amandine
, especially because this means
aunt luidaeg
, but who the fuck is "he". also may is the best and i'm lowkey worried this
"no longer toby's fetch" thing means she no longer has plot armour
. danny is Also the best, 10/10 would let him foist a barghest off on me, i wanna meet his mechanic. oh also the whole trial sideplot. rly great. horrifying jail system! and sylvester's interference at the end was brilliant. also excited to see where this
countess toby
thing will go. also hobs good.
