Boring. Made it halfway through and not much is happening. I can't handle books that are slow starts and get better later! (Does this series get any better than this?)

Edit 11/6/2019: I went back and listened to the audiobook version of this (because reading it myself was just way too boring and I couldn't make it 2 pages without putting it down). Finished it, and I still stand by my first impressions- boring. I'm going to listen to the next book to see of maybe this book is just an intro and the story picks up later on.

I thought this was pretty good. I've gotten past the anthologies in this series, so this was the first full length single story I've read from this author. I was honestly a bit worried that my enjoyment would fall apart in a longer story, but it was a good book. I really like Ciri's character and I think she is a very good representation of a smart little kid who thinks themselves a lot more knowledgable than they actually are.

I enjoyed re-reading this book. I can't say that I would keep it on my immediate bookshelf of direct interests, but it is a good enough book to merit having around, maybe with other collections of fantasy and scifi and whatnot.
The relationships between characters, political climate, combat and distinct senses of identity were very well done in my opinion. While there were some holdovers in the language from polish, I found it endearing and surprising me with pleasant turns of phrase that one doesn't often hear.
The amount of dialogue was a pleasant surprise, and I feel did a fair job of explaining the world the characters existed in without being overly obvious. Different characters had defining patterns to their speech, which I appreciated, and the dialogue didn't shy away from interruptions.
I appreciated the timeskips regarding Ciri's training, but as usual it takes a moment or two to situate oneself within the new environment in the absence of obvious indicators like chapters and titles.
All in all, I enjoyed this book, and will most likely read it again at some point in the future.

I really wanted to like this, but none of the characters feel fleshed-out or realistic, and the story itself drags along like a wounded locomotive.
