I found nothing wrong with this, it was actually super intriguing but I had to return it to the library and I wasn't feeling a YA fantasy. All the difficult words I didn't know in it didn't help either haha. I will definitely pick this back up sometime in the future.

Vespertine is a masterpiece of YA fantasy. Margaret Rogerson took such great care of the characters, and I genuinely don’t know how to describe what clicked about this book for me other than to say it was beautiful and I loved it.
Artemisia is such an interesting, complex character and her depth was astounding. Everything she went through in her past, how she dealt it in her present, and how she processed the world around here were all so captivating. I loved her relationships with the other characters, and how they grew as she spent more time with them and understood more about them.
The magic in this book is also so well done! It’s deceptive in that it feels really simple to understand as a reader while also having layers to it that add depth and intricacy. Everything about the world felt purposeful, and grounded in the history and lore that Rogerson established while also allowing for the fallacy of the humans who spun the history in the past.
I absolutely loved this book! It will definitely be getting added to my shelf; and I can’t wait to read more from Margaret Rogerson! 4.75 stars

Margaret Rogerson writes a good story. I've loved all her books so far. I really enjoyed seeing the different characters' contrasting personalities, and all the misunderstandings that led to. It was also a fascinating exploration of what the life of a saint would be like and how they would interact with their church and god. Bottom line, read this it's amazing.

A dark and twisted fantasy centered around death and magic.
I liked the characters, the plot, and the lack of romance!
