Not any outright spoilers but casual mentions of the plot as whole that could be seen as spoiler-y.

Solid meh overall. The idea was interesting but the execution was definitely off sometimes.

Some parts I liked:
-the revenant is confirmed by the author to be genderless and hates gendered pronouns (uses it/its)
-the revenant is snarky and also caring at the same time (pretends to not care but secretly is worried)
-no romance!!!!! Refreshing for any book in the overall fiction genre to not have romance. Sick of romance tbh
-MC is confirmed to be aro/ace, is disabled, and personally I read her as neurodivergent (mostly because of how I related to her). She really just wanted to be left alone to do her job, poor her. I also understood her tendency to forget to eat or drink because she was focused on other things or felt guilty in certain situations.
-no sequel (for the near future). I like standalones. The book was wrapped up fairly well and leaves room for expansion with a sequel but doesn’t have annoying cliffhangers that won’t ever get resolved.
-interesting mix of magic relating to religion, though this part was a little more unclear

Parts I didn’t like as much:
-world building was confusing and didn’t focus enough on details that would have cleared up some things. If places are mentioned they need context as to how they’re relevant to the story.
-Artemisia didn’t entirely seem to have a goal in the story overall besides to escape being exorcised/murdered/imprisoned. She just kinda did things and then eventually ended up solving a mystery and preventing the end of the world.
-I think it was longer than it needed to be, some parts were dragged out and some needed more details. The balance was a little off.
-author says MC is aro/ace but I didn’t ever pick up on that in book except for the very subtle mentions and the fact that there was no romance in the whole book. I know the author intended to make that more clear with a sequel but the sequel is cancelled for the foreseeable future. Also that there may have been some editing choices that took out the context for clearly stating the MC is canonly aro/ace, which frankly messes up the entire point of having the representation.
- last 1/3 of the book felt rushed and I was confused as to what was going on during all the action. The big bad didn’t have a lot of page time and didn’t really have enough build up to be seen as a big bad where the tension and stakes are very clear and the fate of everything rests on defeating/destroying big bad.
- the MC’s trauma wasn’t really touched on enough to really understand what exactly happened to her? I know she was possessed as a child and got the scars on her hands because she tried to exorcise the demon on her own with fire when she was fed up with being locked away, but I don’t really understand how that happened? There was enough detail for me to understand the gist but I wanted to know more about this as it was a defining part of her character.

3ish stars overall.

DNF at 14%

Po wgryzieniu się w akcję robi się o wiele ciekawiej bo początek zniechęca. Niemal wszystko wydawało mi się oczywiste, ale wciąż nieźle się bawiłam.

I absolutely love this book!

A girl and her emotional support ancient spirit fighting evil

Baaaaad bad bad bad

3.5 stars.
Solid and enjoyable so I’d read more if there’s more additions to the series.

Absolutely adored this book. It was very unique, in my opinion. Trouble was by far the best character

Thank you netgalley and the publisher for my eARC copy! This is my unbiased opinion…

I loved Sorcery of Thorns when many people didn’t so I went into this uncertain how my second foray with the author would go.

I have to say from the first page I was hooked! This is a fast paced action packed story and it really delivers a punch. The author has a whole list of CW/TW on her page and I would encourage anyone picking this up to check those out first. It delves into some heavy topics.

That said as usual a secondary character is my favorite. The Revenant steals the show in my opinion but I do love a snarky b****!!! *shrugs* what can I say. Silas was my fav in sorcery of thorns so it makes sense.

I love that this author follows flawed characters and their journeys. It’s good to be reminded that even heroines are aren’t perfect and can be annoyingly stupid and naive haha.

Rogerson can do no wrong in my eyes!

Adding to my auto buy author list!
