Loved this book and tore through it in 2 days. A lot of very funny satire on contemporary literary, fine dining and social media culture obviously drawing on some IRL stories (sadly).

DNF at page 190. I do not like this book it is slimy and repugnant. The characters are unlikable to a fault and it deeply unnerved me - 1

extremely well written but not pretentious, farfetched plot but hilarious throughout. i couldn’t put this book down and i actually laughed out loud at the opening of one of the chapters and to me i know that’s the sign of a good one. i loved the way this book was written - learning about these wild characters chapter by chapter and each story bleeding into the next. this book was extravagant in all the best ways, and the manor in which the lavish lives of hollywoods “semi” elite were described was intoxicating. the only issue i have is that the ending was a little weak in contrast to the rest, but it still did not overshadow the fact that I loved this book. this weird weird book.

This book is a work of art.
I’m admittedly a sucker for any story told - even partially - through food. The chaos and messiness and realness, all while feeling a little too far out there to hold onto, makes this wild ride beautiful. It’s weird and funny and sad and self deprecating and somehow feels so big even though the words and changing perspectives feel as if they were water that just ran through my hands. This is one of those novels where I don’t really know how to tell someone what it’s about, except to say that it’s a cast of characters coping with new realities in the wake of trauma and really, what’s more real than that? I’ll be thinking about this one for a long time.

I enjoyed this for the most part. The authors' lambasting of the food world and its personalities was cleverly done, but perhaps a bit over done. Too many cooks in the kitchen, as it were, beating various food jokes, bits, and stereotypes to death.
