I've read a few of this series now and have always enjoyed the adventures of Crispen and Jack. I've not read the one that is a bit of a back story to Crispen and Phillipa Walcote so that's going on my to read pile as it seems very intriguing.

This time Crispen is trying to solve a murder that a 7 year old has been accused of. 7! You know you are reading a medieval mystery when the 7 year old is threatened with hanging. Gruesome stuff. The twists and turns around this are great. There's a secondary supernatural story as the bishop of St Modwens is convinced the dead are rising and having a wander around the graveyard. I found the information on the real St Modwen in the afterword fascinating and someone I've never heard of but I want to know more about this female saint. I love when a novel take me on an adventure of learning something I may not otherwise have known.

There's a race against time to save young Christopher from the gallows and find out if there really is a medieval zombie and I love how it all comes together. I very much loved the ending. these characters are growing and growing and I love seeing how they've developed into a little family. Excellent stuff and looking forward to picking up the next in the series

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a review.

The Deepest Grave is a supenseful mystery set in London, 1392. I haven't read any other novels in the series before, still I had no difficulties getting to know the main character, the recurring cast and who they are to each other. Despite the gap in time, which of course comes with a very different mind-set and hbits of living, the characters came across as vivid, likeable and easy to relate to. I especially enjoyed the atmospheric setting, that certain "medieval" feel without diving into cliches of the genre. A great read, I'll definitely check out the rest of this series.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all the tales in this series thus far and I was not let down in the latest installment!
This book sends Crispin on a mission to solve the question of why corpses are wondering around outside of their graves in the middle of the night. I really enjoy the way te author brings historical themes to light in a modern way! As always, Westerson keeps the reader entranced with fast paced action and witty banter!

I highly recommend this series to any one who loves a great story premise with historical aspects, paranormal feats, and Sherlock Holmes

I was offered this book in exchange for an honest review! Thank you for allowing me the opportunity.
