Timequake

Kurt Vonnegut

3.68 AVERAGE

A piece of metafiction from Vonnegut, it meanders through many topics and bits of story, while being largely(?) about free will. While one can't deny Vonnegut's wit or cleverness, Timequake,/i> felt very cursory and scattered. It didn't provide enough deep or focus enough for the reader to chew on the subject matter. And I'm not sure Vonnegut's detached irony helps much either, in this case.

You're better off reader his other books.

I enjoyed this a lot but it is a very, very strange book. It's based conceptually on a novel that Vonnegut started and didn't like, but that story is mixed in with an introspective sort-of memoir. It's a rambling sort of book, and you should not go in expecting a tightly plotted story.

Read this to see a bunch of Vonnegut's disjointed thoughts on life and hear his anecdotes and perspectives.
challenging medium-paced

It had its funny moments, but having never read a book by the author before, this was probably not the book to start with.

This book is free will propaganda.
I'm wild again, beguiled again, a whimpering, simpering child again. Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered am I.

Enticing crossover of short semi-auto biographical stories and Kilgore Trout’s story before, during, and following the time quake. Dark humor at its best and sometimes cringiest but still rings true and salient in the current state of affairs.
