adventurous challenging funny medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes

Aside from the occasional hilarious quip and sporadic heartfelt narrative, I was not able to vibe with this book. It's a bit of a mess... one can almost sense that Vonnegut was just winging it as he went.

A bit more confusing that other Vonnegut, which is saying something. Hard to follow with all the time-jumps. Not my favorite.

This is an easy 5 stars for the humor alone.  I put it up there with Breakfast of Champions as my favorite Vonnegut novel, although it might be better classified as a failed novel, but that's one of its charms.  Vonnegut is like a favorite uncle — a bit crass, a bit problematic, but you know his heart's in the right place.  There's no one else who can write on this level, like he's right there talking directly to you, just chatting, just shooting the shit.

"I am eternally grateful for my knack of finding in great books, some of them very funny books, reason enough to feel honored to be alive, no matter what else might be going on."
