I really enjoyed the beginning of this and was very curious of the mystery. However, that dived very fast after the sudden (and at least for the audiobook, unmentioned graphic animal torture and murder). Absolutely bonkers to have her murder over

30 cats

for zero reasons. Not to mention the spirals that never have an explanation but we're supposed to find sinister? The ending was lackluster and there's needed to be more explanation for it to hit more, not relying on only murdering pets.

To the people who said others shouldn't complain about unmentioned animal torture and murder because they picked up a horror thriller book; if every single horror book you read has that in there, that's pretty concerning.

I like reading clean endings where everything comes to a conclusion but I wasn't prepared enough for this psychological horror. Idunn is an unreliable narrator because of the sleep walking so I think the ending of this book is intentionally open to interpretation, allowing us as readers to decide what we believe happened. The narration is so unreliable that even the page numbers are sometimes there and, other times, they disappear. The abrupt ending makes me think Idunn had a psychotic breakdown which left me feeling so uneasy and I was completely taken off guard. This book is a whole package if you are looking to read something that's mind bending.

I judged a book by its cover when I purchased this. The hot pink wine spill reeled me in. It was a fast thriller that leaves you as confused as the narrator. The chapter stylization was gratifying and made me feel like I was flying through the pages. I don’t think this story will haunt me at night, but it was a fun read.
