I really thought we were going to get more from this family and see their close bond, but Gus and Owen spoke to each other like they were strangers and I think that bled into the rest of the entire story. It felt like no one had close relationships. Even the one that built between Owen and Lila felt like it was lacking substance. I think too much of their relationship building was happening off screen. Some of the dialogue came across cringe and the sex scenes weren't very enticing. I actually ended up skimming most of them. It's such a bummer that this wasn't quite what I wanted. I'll try the second book in this series and decide on how I feel about the author. Sadly this was not a good first entry.

only got to chapter 2, it was so hard to read and i don't know why, i tried to read this twice and couldn't get past the same spot.

I guess it's safe to say I'm a lumberjack fan! This looks to be another amazing series. I'm patiently waiting for the next one. Also, can we get Clive

One word: editing. This book has no buisness being as long as it is. And then to glaze over the romantic weekend bit with “we laughed and talked and really got to know each other”

WHAT!?!?!

I read everything waking minute of these people’s lives and this is the bit we skip!?!?

Fuck you book.

DNF at 45%. The stakes seemed to want to be high on the business plot line, but the backstory wasn’t fleshed out enough for it to payoff. The reader is supposed to care about the family of brothers and their tension, and their issues because of dad.. but we weren’t given any time to be introduced to them to care enough about that side plot. The business issues were obviously a plot device to set up Owen and Lila into close proximity.. which is a great trope for a romance novel. I’m all for a romance novel held together with barely a plot, but it didn’t feel like that type of book either. 45% through and not even a kiss. However, the payoff wasn’t here either. The tension between these two was the opposite of palpable. I found myself dreading opening the book because I was so bored every time.

The characters were sweet. I wished we could see how they grew more and slightly more communication but it was nice. The ending felt a little rushed.
