This is an age gap, brother's ex girlfriend, small town romance that features a hot lumberjack and the woman who works for him but also previously dated his brother for a long time. I really loved Owen and Lila, their history, and how they overcome their obstacles. Owen is trying to save his family's lumber business in Maine, and although he wants nothing to do with small town Maine, his family needs him to sort out the books and arrange a buyer for the company. His assistant just happens to be his little brother's ex, who Owen really likes from the very beginning, but he feels he can't act on due to his brother. Owen is swoony though, and goes above and beyond for Lila. In one instance, she has Celiac disease and tells him she's missing pizza and he literally buys every ingredient and gluten free flour to try and create the perfect pizza for her. He's perfection! Everything about this was so good. The banter, the family drama, the spice… it has everything anf I really enjoyed reading it. This book was just effortlessly entertaining and I found myself so wrapped up in it, and really rooting for Owen, Lila, and the business. I loved the way it ended and I cannot WAIT for the next book!

I love living in this small town era 🌲🫶

The story's main plot line of 'saving the family business' was done really well. I was very invested in whether or not Owen successfully accomplished this. There was a murder on their land, I hope this gets answered in a future book.

Owen is our MMC. He grew up in this small town but made a great life for himself in Boston. He's broody and moody, and he definitely doesn't WANT to have to dig the family out of the hole that his dad dropped them into. But he loves his brothers and would do anything for them. He's extremely smart and dedicated. I thought he was rather sweet!!! The gluten-free pizza situation. Oh, hell!!!

I liked that Lila, our FMC, already had a whole past life that brought her to this strong, evolved individual. She has goals & boundaries. She is smart, determined, goal oriented, strong-willed, and super funny. I thought her wit was on point.

The ex's brother trope was done very maturely. I was expecting a bit more grit & drama over this, but the way it was handled was so grown up. Which was fine because the lumberyard has enough drama.

Favorite Scenes:
1. When Lila is in the board room and schools the cheap dirty buyers.
2. When Owen sets up an outdoor movie theater.
3. When Lila announces her feelings in the hospital.

Fave Quote:
“Because I don’t want you to be cold. Or hungry or tired. I care about you. And if I can make your life easier, even in the smallest of ways, then I’ll do it. Every time."

Ahhh!! I’ve been looking forward to the Hebert family’s books. I loved our alphanerd Owen and a whippersnapper Lila. These two were perfect for each other. They may of been from opposite ends of the tracks but in mind and soul were perfect. I loved this book also because no third act breakup!!! It was amazing and yes angsty but that fought through everything together. I was absolutely hooked from the start! I hope we get more of these two because they are amazing.

Why you need to read this book…
