I liked this book, but not quite as much as the first one (and for what it's worth, I even really liked The Slow Regard of Silent Things). The story moves along just fine at the beginning, spanning the time at the University through Kvothe's trip to the trip to Severen, but beginning with the Fae and continuing on into Ademre, the narrative momentum really drags. The descriptions are great, mind you, and there is quite the fantastic world being constructed, but in some sense you need to write a Lord of the Rings before you are entitled to write the Silmarillion. It's entirely possible the payoff will be worth it in the end, since a lot seems to be slated for book three, especially the killing of a king who has yet to appear in the books, but the story as of now is a bit out of balance for all of its technical prowess.

5/5 stars - how is something like this... so beautiful. at some points it was slow (I mean come on, this book is a thousand pages long) but otherwise... this is a masterpiece. Rothfuss must be some sort of real life wizard, but who is to say he's not??

spoilery thoughts:
- I <3 the university, sim, wil, and fela
- denna is pissing me oFF
- the maer and his kingdom was really interesting
- felurian,,, not my fave.. that tree though - so strange
- love tempi and the Adem, so strong but cool
- whaT THE FUCK BAST who even are you!!!

He looked out over the water for a long time before he answered. "It's an edge," he said at last. "It is a high place with a chance of falling. Things are more easily seen from edges. Danger rouses the sleeping mind. It makes some things clear. Seeing things is a part of being a namer."

This book could've been 300 pages shorter. I find I rather enjoyed Kvothe when he was in university than when he was out of it.
This book also well laid out the seeds of doubt of Kvothe as an unreliable narrator.

Despite certain parts of the book being a chore to read, I loved being back in this world. I don't want to read The Slow Regard of Silent Things just yet because when will Doors come out? Tehlu only knows.

Rothfuss has never spoken to a woman in his entire life.
