- an ember in the ashes ended with high stakes, and somehow this book ended with even higher ones. the drama keeps getting more and more, while still working in the context of the story. everything seems to work out and i love it!
- i. love. heleneeee! she has so much depth and was such an interesting character. she deserves so much better :(
- the characters were all great. all very interesting, with their own motivations and struggles.
- i didn't like tas at times. he just talked so weird. "rise elias vetrius" — what kind of ten-year-old talks like that?

The first third of the book was kind of boring to me, but then I read the rest of the book in a day and had a great time. Not fully sure how I feel about this book but I’ll certainly be reading the next book.

I love Sabaa Tahir's writing style - it's really beautiful and uses a lot of pictures without it being too much. I also completely adore her world building!

This book really haunted me in my memories; Tahir really does not hold back when it comes to describing the pain, grief and utter violence that the main characters are confronted with. It tackles so many important topics!

This time around, there are three point of views we are following: Laia and Elias plus Helene. I found it really interesting to experience what Helene goes through first hand and to see her developing even further. As of right now, I do not completely agree with everything she does or thinks but I really think her character is up for a lot more development and I am excited to see it!

I loved the plot twists and how all the dots were connected at the end. Yes, the beginning was a little bit slower but it's all worth it! I am really excited to see what comes next for our characters and I really hope that Laia and Elias end up together rather sooner than later!!!
