Avalon High

Meg Cabot

3.69 AVERAGE

Ellie has spent her life around tales of the middle ages and Camelot. Her parents are professors. Now for her junior year of high school, they have moved her halfway across the country to a new school while they take a year to write books. She spends the summer floating in the pool at their rented house and eventually she starts running to get ready for track.

One day she says a boy. He's beautiful and when he smiles at her it's like he's smiling at someone he knows. But that's impossible. Turns out he's the most popular boy in school and he immediately starts treating her like a friend, drawing her into his circle. Once there she discovers he's surrounded by treachery and someone has to help him.

I really enjoyed this story. Cabot does an excellent job of providing at least one surprise. She skates the edges of fantasy beautifully. What's real and what isn't makes it very interesting. She's built a great world with Avalon High. Well worth the time.

I demand a sequel! This book was adorable and fun to read. It's typical Meg Cabot teen lit with an Arthurian Legend twist.

I had heard they were making a movie of this on Disney Channel a while back. My first comment: READ THE BOOK. The movie is fine as a stand alone, but it's no where near the book. I love Meg Cabot so much and this is such a great book. Read it, defs.

I'm a teeny bit guilty for giving it 4 stars because
1) I love modern retellings,
2) I'm a sucker for chick lit and teenage romance,
3) I find Arthurian legend fascinating and
4) it's revolving around reincarnation.
It's basically a few of my loves jampacked into one book, so I would naturally find that awesome. However, I'm not entirely impressed by the writing in this book (I must say though that I'm not one to judge Meg Cabot's writing style since this is the first of hers I've read). I can't exactly point it out, but I felt like something's off.

As for the characters, I would say most of them were stereotypical. I do get that it's part of the gist, since they ARE reincarnations. Some characters, like Jennifer, I found interesting. Everyone pretty much was predictable, yet lovable at the same time.

In a nutshell, I would say it was worth the read. It's not my usual type of book, but I thought it was fun and a refreshing change from all the dark, dystopian, suspense, romance type of books I go for. My biggest complaint is that I never got that big, awaited climax. I waited for the mind-boggling twist, but it never happened and the story just went straight to it. True, there were a few twists here and there, but they weren't all that explosive.

THE MOVIE ADAPTATION
Having been watched the movie I would say that the film was alright. It didn't blow me away, but it was nice since there were new characters and their personalities had a lot of dimension. The ending was unexpected, too:-)

Then again, these are just my personal opinions. I would love to hear yours:D

It's been a while since I have so much fun reading a new book! The prolific Meg Cabot, (my daughter was reading the _Allie Finkle_ series while I read this) has come up with a funny, yet inspired take on the Arthurian legends. Ellie, (real name Elaine), the offspring of two medieval obsessed professors, has just transferred to the title high school, where she meets a trio of popular kids: hot shot football star Lance, golden girl cheerleader Jennifer, and the mysterious, too-good-to-be-true A. William Wagner: class president, star quarterback. natural leader and heroic protector of nerds and other outcasts. Why, Ellie wonders, does she feel she's met them all before?

Although anyone who's ever seen _Camelot_ will guess "Will's" real name and destiny long before Ellie does, Cabot provides a couple of twists on the legend you won't see coming. Hint: Ellie's affinity for water and floating are significant, but not in the way everyone thinks.

adventurous emotional funny mysterious fast-paced

You know what? I really liked it. Didn't think I would because I'm not super interested in the 'girlier' side of YA, but I really did enjoy it. A fun little novel with some interesting ideas.

se seu livro preferido de meg cabot era avalon high hoje em dia você é dark academier

I really love this book, it's fun to read and Meg Cabot writes great characters.

Full of high school cliches, a twist you can spot from a mile away, and a major "I'm not like other girls" viewpoint, but the fast-paced writing style and some hints of character growth make it a quick, easy, and entertaining read.
